Reading 40 Challenge

This year, my year 9 class are joining me on a reading challenge- to read 40 books in a year! For every 5 books completed and reviewed, S-P-I points can be earned, as well as house points for each page of the Journal completed.

If you would like to join us, you can download the Reading Journal here:reading-journal-ks3

I’ll be sharing some of their reviews over the challenge as they try out a range of new genres, both fiction and non-fiction. Good Luck!

Wider Reading

As we are studying Of Mice and Men, why not carry out some wider reading and add to your Reading Journal?:

To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee and Noughts and Crosses by Malorie Blackman explore similar themes. Here you can find the first chapters of both books to ‘try before you buy’ (don’t forget you can borrow these books from the library. Come and show me your library books and earn house points too!)

Noughts and Crosses first 2 chapters

Synopsis: Sephy is a Cross – a member of the dark-skinned ruling class. Callum is a nought – a ‘colourless’ member of the underclass who were once slaves to the Crosses. The two have been friends since early childhood. But that’s as far as it can go. Until the first steps are taken towards more social equality and a limited number of Noughts are allowed into Cross schools… Against a background of prejudice and distrust, intensely highlighted by violent terrorist activity by Noughts, a romance builds between Sephy and Callum – a romance that is to lead both of them into terrible danger…

This title Noughts and Crosses 9780552555708 is the first book in the Noughts and Crosses trilogy.
